Black Lives Matter
BIPOC communities across the world are at a disadvantage due to all forms of racism. I'd really appreciate if you could donate to a charity that works towards abolishing racism and supporting these communities in the USA or Australia.
I've spent lots of effort researching charities which I believe do meaningful work and spend their money wisely, and you can find their donation pages here:

USA
Why the USA and Australia?
USA: Black Americans are 2.6x more likely than White Americans to be killed by police. If we can reduce racism in the USA then the entire world will notice; it would be a huge step towards fighting racism globally.
Australia: because I call Australia home and want to support Indigenous Australians. They represent only 3% of the total population, yet more than 29% of Australia's prison population are Aboriginal people.
Why those charities?
I selected two charities in each of the USA and Australia which I believe are doing the right work, trying to find the right mix of immediate help for those in need and investment in long-term systemic and cultural change. I also tried to make sure that the charities are spending their money efficiently.
Australia
- The Human Rights Law Centre employs legal action, policy solutions and advocacy to support those who experience inequality and injustice. Among other landmark cases they are currently bringing Justice for Tanya Day, which could be the first time an Australian police officer is held criminally responsible for an Aboriginal death in custody. Salaries are 60% of revenue, which supports their legal team. Donate here.
- Children's Ground directly engages Aboriginal communities to educate children and their families on literacy, numeracy, preventative health and emotional wellbeing, with a focus on children aged 0-8. They use an evidence-based approach with the goal of creating lasting social change. In 2019, people were engaged 2,870 times in their programs at an average cost of AUD$1,735 (USD$1,185) per engagement. Donate here.
USA
